Black Mirror Needs a Little Windex

Let me get it out from the start. I’m a Black Mirror geek.

I’ve loved most of it.

I’ve loved the Dystopian and slightly awry technology.

I even loved Bandersnatch after watching 5 endings with no real surprises.

So I patiently waited for season 5…

…and here we are and my first impression is …wtf? None have the sucker punch of episodes like The National Anthem (s1) and Nosedive (s3).

Instead, a we get a strange rumination on the tribulations of hyper-pop stardom via Miley Cyrus, plus a coy, bi-sexploitation rumination on the ultimate use we find for all new technology (just remember that you’re not gay if your mate looks like a hot female anime warrior while you’re shagging him in VR). I’m not sure what the takeaway from Striking Vipers was supposed to be, that VR role-play porn is good?

The expectations of the Black Mirror universe have have become impossible to satisfy us and that’s why there should not be a season 6.

It wasn’t exactly Fonzy and the shark, but the sad Miley Cyrusesque pop star, rescued from her real and imagined demons by an obsessed fan and her goth bass playing sister, helped by a profane , sentient purple, plastic robot toy, was just a cracked mirror too much for me.

Or perhaps you disagree…
